I would like to express my concern about the conviction SAFIYA YAKUBU
HUSSANI, sentenced to death by stoning at shari'ah court of GWADABAWA in
October 2001.

I have been informed that the trial, held under Sokoto Shari'ah Penal Code,
did not fulfill the international standards of fair trail.

I could learn about the case thanks Amnesty International organization.

It is also suspected that SAFIYA YAKUBU HUSSANI did not have sufficient legal
representation, which ske should have been entitled to.

I urge You to use all Your authority in order to change the sentence of
SAFIYA YAKUBU HUSSANI, sentenced to death for adultery.

I appeal to You to take promt action to stop tortures and ill-treatment
allowed by new laws based on Shari'ah in Nigeria.
