The   Programming   Research   Group   of   Amsterdam   University

on the subject of reverse engineering and system renovation here:

In  some(?)  researches  they  use  an  environment  for  language
prototyping, ASF+SDF, developed at CWI (http://www.cwi.nl/) in the
contest of the project GIPE (Generation of Interactive Programming
Environments):
