Able to actually see anything with SDL?

When I try:
Slate 1> SDL initialize.
True

Slate 3> SDL setVideoWidth: 640 Height: 480 BPP: 8.
True
Slate 4> SDL drawFilledCircleInX: 320 y: 240 withRadius: 60 red: 100 green: 
0 blue: 0 alpha: 20.

Slate 5> SDL updateScreen.
30

I get nothing in the window that have appeared.

Bad parameters?

Was someone getting better?
