Learning about VMs

There seem to always be a few people thinking about working on Slate's
VM, but no one with the time and interest has an understanding of VM
implementations. A recent thread in the Strongtalk group provided
some information on what a hacker should know before messing with the
Strongtalk VM, perhaps it'll help those looking for a starting point.
