Hello,
I'm new to the list and I would like to introduce myself using
the Poll from January (I found it in the mailing-list archive).
*********** Identity ***********
** Name: Patrick Premont
** E-Mail address: premont@iro.umontreal.ca
** Network capabilities available: almost everything, no ftp server
** Physical address: I'll be moving soon
** Phone Number: 1-514-899-9380
** Birth day (as the age changes every year !): 1973/08/08
** Work/Study situation:
Just finished a B.Sc. in CS
Executing NOP instructions during the summer :)
Starting a M.Sc. in CS in September.
*********** Computer Background ***********
** computer languages fluently spoken (in order of decreasing interest):
Dylan, Scheme, Miranda, C++, C, Prolog, BASIC, MIPS and 80x86 assembler/machine
** languages I'd like to know:
Tunes :), SELF, CLOS's MOP, Haskell, ML, anything with features I've never
seen.
** The language I'd like to use as Tunes' HLL:
A highly modified Dylan.
** political *computer* opinions:
I'd rather not get into that, but Tunes should be free.
** Architectures/OS combination I can work on:
486 with OS/2, Sparc with SunOS (at least until september)
*********** Parts of the system I'm ready to develop: ***********
** New protocols I'd like to design:
The HLL (which, as I see it, must inlude the LLL)
** Existing protocols I'd like to implement:
** Architectures I'd help write the low-level stuff for:
80x86
*********** Parts of the system I'm eager others to develop: ***********
** New protocols I'd like to see designed:
** Existing protocols I'd like to see implemented:
Drivers
** Architectures I'd like the system to be ported to:
Start on the 80x86 and port it only once it's somewhat mature.
*********** Project Management ***********
** How much I am available:
Let's say half-time during the summer and much less after that
unless my M.Sc. has somthing to do with Tunes.
** How I think the project could be managed better:
Maybe we (if I may include myself) could move much faster if we
regularily communicated through talk/IRC/VRC. E-mail communication
doesn't allow for very rapid argumentation. E-mail is fine when
everyone can work alone for a day or two but we're not that independent yet
(unless we let one person do everything).
** Sub-project I'm ready to manage:
I don't think subprojects need distinct managers yet. Subprojects are not yet
sufficiently independent.
** What I think about the poll:
Great. Especially since the mailing-list is archived. It's easy to go back
to it.
More to come on why I'm interrested in Tunes and my opinions about it...
