There seems to be some confusion between the two meanings
of the word "free". One meaning is something that costs
nothing, the other is about the lack of restrictions. GPL
is not so much about giving away software for nothing, but
about trying to avoid letting people add restrictions to
what can be done with the software.
I don't use GPL on any program I write and don't even like
it very much, but I don't think that most of the concerns
that have been expressed here are valid.
