I've been hacking on max the last few days..  Here's a summary:

I used CLOS to create classes of spaces and functions, to allow
non-finite spaces and functions.  I made the space of sets, the first
non-finite space.  Then I changed the format of an address to use
regular symbols and removed the "type" field.  Then I fixed
function-quotient (it returns one of the new sets), which involved
creating addr-equal (testing equality of addresses).

Read the CVS log and the code for more details. I'd be glad to answer
any questions!  (Not that you guys will actually post anything..)
