the scsi2 version of the drive can transfer 7gig/h, ide can do 3.6gig/h
and the parallel port can do 2.5gig/h.

most hdds can do over 5meg/s. your isa controller is a bottle neck and
so is your 486. the cpu+bus needs to be faster than what the drive can
handle to get the most from the drive. for $80 you can pick up a
motherboard and k6-2 300 and your drive could be running 15 times
faster, not to mention everything else. :)
