Bootstrap confusion

hi!

there is something unclear for me: if I have an old working vm/image
pair, and I generate a new vm/image from the current sources (that
possibly contain some extra functionality, primitives, etc...), and the
generation runs without any errors then I'm not safe to assume that my
new vm/image is correctly generated? and generating with the alpha/ vm
may result in a vm/image that is not bit-by-bit the same?

the only possible problem I can think of is that the cvs version of the
vm/image build code may user language/environment features that are not
present in an older vm, but that should trigger some error while
generating.

I must have some bugous assumptions. so, sorry to make an ass out of
ourselves novo... :) and please shed some light on it if you have a few
free minutes.
