Could you try with:
http://www.ferzkopp.net/~aschiffler/Software/SDL_gfx-2.0/SDL_gfx-2.0.13.zip
instead of duplicating SDL on SDL_gfx?

Somehow I am a bit afraid because my version is probably older, but
let's see what you can get by using real SDL_gfx.
