The architecture might be different, but  the programming style is exactly the same.

It "IS" documented... but not well... I've only used tried developing older ones (2 and
3), I hear they've improved it greatly in 6... but 5 was supposed to be just as bad...
Developers just had to struggle through it (the sparse docs), until enough of them got
good enough to write good books on the subject... I was stating that MS didn't have
good docs.  The only point I was trying to make was that we need to not repeat that
mistake... the whole OS must have good documentation.

No, that's not what I meant either... The hardware abstracts should have enough
features, and enough low level access to be able to handle what game developers want.
Not a special API....
