I would suggest you all read the papers you 
can find about the Flux project of CMU at
http://www.cs.utah.edu/projects/flux.

They are the guys who implemented Mach years ago.
(two of the articles are also on my site in plain, not-zipped pdf format:

 and http://studwww.rug.ac.be/~pdumon/inherit.pdf
 but they are 500K each (not-zipped), more for my own use)

Lets you know what systems are already being designed and implemented in
the world.
