In X, you can allow hosts or users on certain hosts to run programs and
use your display as the display of their program. You can still run your
own programs on yout screen or other screens , off course.
This means you can run programs on an application server and let those
programs use your local screen.
You can also run the windows manager on a remote server on top of
your own X server and then run your applications (local or remote)
